Marion Walter Jacobs (May 1, – February 15, ), known as Little Walter, was an American blues musician, singer, and songwriter, whose revolutionary approach to the harmonica and impact on succeeding generations has earned him comparisons to such seminal artists as Django Reinhardt, Charlie Parker and Jimi Hendrix.

Technically speaking, the title The Complete Chess Masters may be a bit of a misnomer. Little Walter issued the majority of his sides on Chess' sister label Checker with his full LPs appearing on Chess proper, but this is splitting hairs: Walter cut all his solo sides for Chess, often in Chess studios, cutting most during a spell in the early and mid-'50s when he was the most successful artist 10/

Jan 20,  · Little Walter was an innovator with the electronics-mic-amp-hallway combinations, great studio effects and as the lickin'-stick "maestro" produced the most full-bodied and extraordinary harp sounds and blues music of anyone--then or now.5/5(6).

This release is a little confusing, coming out as it does more than a year after the release of MCA-Chess' Little Walter rarities collection Blues with a Feeling, and two years after the double-CD anthology set that contains most of the best parts of this country.fivegallonbucket.netinfo, for those who can't afford either of those pricey sets, this disc, coupled with the two best-of volumes, and the other 8/

Apr 24,  · Little Walter on the other hand created something new, based on the blues, but heavier and faster. He pretty much invented modern "rock music" as it took over in the late sixties, just after Walter's passing (Hendrix, Doors, Rolling Stones tour, Stooges, etc).
